Manchester United is under pressure to suspend Antony Santos (known as Antony), its £84 million Brazilian winger, after serious allegations of physical assault led Brazil to withdraw him from the national squad. Yesterday Antony’s former girlfriend, Gabriella Cavallin, gave details of multiple alleged attacks between June 2022 to May this year to the Brazilian website UOL. She says he threatened to throw her from a moving car while pregnant when they were on holiday in Brazil, punched her breast so hard her silicon implant flipped over and she required medical attention, and tried to attack her face with glass, leading her to tell a travel agent “I need to get out of here [England] before he kills me”. Antony has publicly denied the allegations stating he can “say with tranquillity” he is innocent. Manchester United – which announced last month that former-forward Mason Greenwood would leave by “mutual agreement” following a storm over the club’s handling of an internal investigation into dropped charges of rape and sexual assault – has not yet released a statement on Antony. Cavallin has filed reports to police in São Paulo and Manchester.
