Generative AI is creeping into another aspect of modern life: dating apps. Major apps like Tinder, Bumble and Hinge already use some form of AI to moderate and push selected profiles to users – but why not take the stress out messaging altogether? That’s the pitch of apps like YourMove and Rizz (Gen-Z translation: to flirt well). They offer help with making users’ profiles more appealing and suggesting witty comebacks and openers. A June survey by the AI dating coach Attractiontruth found 20 per cent of 1,371 respondents (millennial men across the sexuality spectrum) were using AI-bots like Chat GPT to generate their bios and send messages. What AI can’t do is help you speak in person if you do make it to a real-life date. Not yet at least. There’s not necessarily the guarantee of a date either. We asked YourMove to generate a response to the message “What are you up to this weekend?” with the settings on maximum “flirty”. One suggestion: “Oh, just planning on conquering the world with my charm and wit. How about you? Any exciting adventures planned? 💃🌟.”
