Spurs-linked billionaire indicted

British billionaire Joe Lewis has been indicted in the US for “orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme”. The US government has accused Lewis, 86, of helping his pilots (who have also been charged), friends, girlfriend, and an occasional poker buddy in Argentina make serious money from his boardroom positions. Lewis’ then-girlfriend allegedly made $849,000 in profit after being tipped to sell bioscience shares in 2019. Lewis, who placed his stake in Tottenham Hotspur football club into a family trust last October, also allegedly passed information about the results of a clinical trial to his pilots – one pilot reportedly later sent a text saying “the Boss has inside info” and “knows the outcome”. Lewis has pleaded not guilty and was released on bail after giving up access to his superyacht and private jet.
