India’s prime minister Narendra Modi has vowed to punish a mob that paraded two women naked in the north-eastern state of Manipur, saying that the incident had “shamed India”. It’s the latest instance of ethnic violence in the state between the majority-Hindu Meitei and majority-Christian Kuki. At least 130 people have died in the clashes so far, with 60,000 displaced. Yesterday’s attack included the gang rape of one of the women, who have become known as the “daughters of Manipur”. The police have arrested one man, saying that more arrests will follow.
