Twitter has been accused of owing former staff a total of $500 million in severance in a class-action lawsuit filed by Courtney McMillian, who oversaw employee benefits there before being made redundant. According to the claim, laid-off staff were due to receive two months’ worth of base salary in severance, while senior staff like McMillan were owed six months’, plus one week for each full year of experience. Musk stands accused of deceiving people with his promise to pay laid-off employees “50 per cent more than legally required” in severance in order to keep them at the company longer than they otherwise would. McMillan’s lawyer suggested Musk had lied “to prevent mass resignations that would have threatened the viability of the merger and the vitality of Twitter itself.” Twitter, which no longer has a PR department, responded to a comment request from Reuters with a poop emoji.
