Zuckerberg plans “sanely run” app to compete with Twitter

Meta’s newest venture is a “sanely run” version of Twitter, according to leaks from a company-wide meeting yesterday. Chris Cox, chief product officer, told employees the goal was “safety, ease of use” and “reliability” for the new app. He also claimed big names like Oprah and the Dalai Lama were jumping to the Meta-ship. Meta will be competing for the Twitter-replacement spot with a new offering from Twitter’s own founder, Jack Dorsey, although Dorsey’s latest offering, known as Bluesky, is still invite-only. CEO Mark Zuckerberg used the meeting to criticise the price of Apple’s new Vision Pro headset (Meta’s Quest 3 costs $3,000 less) saying it showed the “difference in the values” of the two companies. For good measure, he said every demo just showed a person “sitting on a couch by themself”. Recent price cuts for the Quest headset have been attributed to a lack of demand for the “metaverse”. What happened to ‘if you build it they will come’?
