Charlie is caught in the crossfire of a deadly power play and must escape Atlantic City alive.

Natasha Lyonne’s new detective dramedy is a beautifully confusing tease of a show, flinging old school TV tropes – a case of the week like Colombo, a sleuthing super-mind like Sherlock – at a rust belt, beer-for-breakfast amiable drifter who solves crimes because she slept with the guy, or because it’s disturbing the peace of a trucker stop. Penned by Knives Out scribe Rian Johnson, Lyonne’s casino cocktail waitress who can smell bullshit instinctively ends up on the run from her boss dealing with killers from an A-list guest cast including Chloe Sevigny and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. And, oh sweet mercy, thanks to the case of the week structure you absolutely do not have to binge it.

Poker Face is on Sky Atlantic from 26 May
