When we first started Tortoise, we wanted to ensure that the stories we reported – and the people they’re about – didn’t just vanish, as they so often do once the media has moved on. In May last year we published ‘Hunt for the porn king’, our investigation into Mindgeek, the company behind one of the world’s most-visited online porn sites, and the accusations that it had profited from videos containing sexual abuse on its platform. The story culminated with Alexi Mostrous, Tortoise’s investigations editor, tracking Bernd Bergmair – the owner of Pornhub’s parent company, Mindgeek – to his London mansion.
This week, we’re looking back to ask: what happened next, and when it comes to profiting from abusive content, is Pornhub just the tip of the iceberg? Listen to ‘Hunt for the porn king: a reckoning’ in the Tortoise app and on our website today.
Have a very good week.
Best,

James Wilson
