Tortoise Podcast: Rogue One (30:12)
The pace of slow news picked up this week as John Bercow, the Speaker of the House clashed with Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the silencing of parliamentary opposition to a No Deal Brexit.
A few weeks ago we realised Bercow was going to become the central figure in a Brexit fight between the executive and Parliament, so we asked Philip Webster to profile the Speaker – he spent more than an hour with him at Westminster this month.
We brought our piece forward on Thursday after the government announced its plans to suspend parliament for more than a month as it tries to railroad Brexit through with or without a deal.
Phil came in for a discussion about the Speaker, the Westminster plotting and Johnson’s war games. And first, we asked him: “Are we heading for a snap general election?”
